2014 PRS Private Stock SC 245 Zombie Fade Singlecut Cocobolo Neck
Great rare specs and unique, one off PRS Private Stock SC245
Comes with case, COA, docs, papers etc.
Note that the truss rod cover is Cocobolo, no inlay, the pickup rings are Cocobolo, and the volume and tone knobs are Cocobolo with paua bird inlays. Weight is approximately 8.75 pounds. LOT of upcharge options here - same guitar will cost You around 20 k now with 1 year + of waiting, and impossivle to find this top.
The top on this guitar is really book matched well, and is highly 3 dimensional as you would expect from a Private Stock top. This is not a guitar that shows the "flame effect" from one direction only, it's big and bold from all directions. There is no mistaking this guitar from a distance, it's a top that people notice and comment on. The curl and ribbons on the african mahogany back and sides are stunning and 3-dimensional as well. The way PRS creates a binding on the body out of the original top wood is amazing.
As for tone - I like single cut guitars and this gets a great single cut guitar tone. I think that the cocobolo neck and fretboard give this guitar a particularly nice tone as cocobolo is a harder wood with a wide tonal range. Lots of clarity and punch, with a broad tonal range making it full yet retaining that clarity and chime.
The 57/08s are great pickups and this particular pair of 57/08s IMO are really good. Well balanced between the bridge and the neck pickup. The bridge is thick and rich, the neck is nice and fat, but not muddy. Want a good ZZ Top growl from the bridge pickup, you got it. Hit the neck pickup and lay into the opening riff of Sweet Child of MIne from Guns N' Roses and Slash, it's right there. The break up of these pickups is just right. Somehow Paul ended up finding a way to create a better yet authentic PAF pickup.
Condition Description - here are the things I think the buyer should know before purchasing:
This guitar has been played but is in excellent condition overall with minor blemishes to the finish typical from normal playing. I have babied this guitar, and these are so minor its hard to capture in a photo, the finish is still really glossy and nice all the way around. There is one small round ding about 3/16 diameter in the finish near the guitar strap peg on the end of the guitar. Paul's signature is slightly faded at one side due to playing as seen in the photo. The pickups and stop tail have some patina. The leather case has a few blemishes on the exterior, but is overall in very good condition, the metal hardware on teh case is clean and in good condition with no visible oxidation. This case has not been dragged around to gigs. I have always had this guitar professionally set up by an expert luthier and it is in perfect working condition.
